Mit 36 (von 37) Farbholzschnitten, zum Teil silbergehöht und 3 doppelblattgroß. Enthalten sind die Illustrationen Nummer 114-150, mit Ausnahme der Nummer 145. Berühmtes Kimono-Musterbuch des japanischen Meisters Tennen Kaigai (geboren 1860), der unter Kishi Chikudo und Suzuki Shonen gelernt hatte und seinerseits den Kyoter Kunstkreis maßgeblich prägte. In seinem "Tennen Moyo Kagami" löst er sich vom traditionellen Stil und gestaltet mit seiner vielfältigen und faszinierenden Technik ein Monument des Nihonga. Motivisch bewegt er sich zwischen traditionell stilisierten und geometrisch abstrahierten Darstellungen landschaftlicher Szenen im alpinen und maritimen Bereich, kleiner Vögel, Blumen und Gräser. Die Kimonos werden sowohl im Ganzen als auch im Detail, in Bewegung als auch statisch dargestellt. Die Holzschnitte wurden von Mori Isaku geschnitten und von Yamanaka Izo gedruckt. Broschur etwas fleckig, berieben und mit Randfehlstellen, Fadenheftung an einer Stelle gelöst, zwar nach Blockbuchart gebunden, die gefalzten Lagen allerdings geöffnet und sauber beschnitten, Illustration Nummer 145 fehlt, weißer Blattrand bzw. Holzschnitt im äußeren Rand zumeist gestempelt (jedoch nie in die eigentliche Darstellung hineinreichend) und zum Teil etwas staubschmutzig, hinteres fliegendes Blatt mit Randfehlstellen, die übrigen Blätter mit leichten Randläsuren und zum Teil in den Ecken knickspurig (ausschließlich den weißen Rand betreffend), Seiten teilweise papierbedingt mit zarten Quetschfalten, Seidenhemdchen leicht gebräunt, zum Teil fehlend, mit Fehlstellen bzw. etwas knickspurig, wo Seidenhemdchen fehlen gelegentlich leichter Abklatsch, Seiten nur leicht gebräunt und sehr vereinzelt und minimal fleckig. Gutes bis sehr gutes Exemplar mit herausragend schön erhaltenen Farbholzschnitten. Original softcover bound in the style of Japanese blockbooks with silk label. Japanese language edition. Brown 203. Famous kimono pattern book by the Japanese master Tennen Kaigai (born 1860), who studied not only under Kishi Chikudo and Suzuki Shonen, but had himself also a significant influence on the Kyoter art circle. In his "Tennen Moyo Kagami" he breaks away from the traditional style and uses his diverse and fascinating technique to create a monument to Nihonga. In terms of motifs, he oscillates between traditionally stylized and geometrically abstract representations of landscape scenes in the alpine and maritime areas, small birds, flowers and grasses. The kimono are depicted both as a whole and in detail, in movement and static. The woodblock prints were cut by Mori Isaku and printed by Yamanaka Izo. Covers slightly stained, rubbed and with missing edges, sewn binding partially loosened, although bound in a blockbook style, the once folded edges are neatly trimmed, illustration number 145 is missing, white margins resp. woodcut edges often stamped (never entering the actual picture) as well as margins partially a bit dust soiled, rear flyleaf with defects to the margins, the other sheets with minimal blemishes to the margins and some creases in the corners, sheets partly with fine creases due to the paper, tissue paper between the woodcuts slightly darkened, partly missing, with defects resp. with creases, woodcuts occasionally with light offset, pages only slightly darkened and few minimally stained. Good to very good copy with outstandingly well-preserved colored woodcuts.

Auf der letzten Seite aller drei Bände Besitzerstempel: Kyoto shi Manomachi, Goike minami iri / Gofuku somemono . . . shasho / Hishiya Takeshita Risaburô. - Es ist anzunehmen, dass das Tuchgeschäft mit Namen Hishiya des Takeshita Risaburô in Kyoto diese Bücher als Musterbücher für seine Kunden auslegte und verwendete. - Kaigai Tennen war inder Zeit um 1900 ein Maler in Kyoto. Er lernte die Malerei bei dem Shijô-Maler Suzuki Hyakunen (1825-1891). - Tomioka Tessai (1836-1924) war ein nanga-Maler und eine bekannte Größe in den Künstlerkreisen in Kyoto, der sehr häufig Vorworte für die Publikationen seiner Künstlerfreunde schrieb.
