Add to basketFirst Edition. 49.5 x 39cm. Rare original large photograph on thick card. The Avery brothers photographed by Ida Kar c.1956, posing with painting. Stain affecting upper area as shown. A rare and apparently unrecorded portrait of the enigmatic artists by Russian-born photographer who actively documented the London art scene. Wilfred and Sam were born in Devon and moved to London in the early 1950s, producing mostly landscape artwork with a modernist dream-like tinge. Their works were influenced by Paul Nash and, later, the theories of Carl Jung, but the pair struggled to find a foothold in the changing landscape of the 1960s and Wilfred continued produced ever more febrile artwork, whilst Sam pursued writing under the name Samuel Lock.
On the copyright page she inscribed in French, dated with place, "2/4/60 London," and signed, "Ida." The catalog is comprised of 21 photograph portraits, stapled but now separated from the cover that shows a self portrait of Kar. Otherwise, pages in good condition.
