Condition: Very Good. Dr. Karl Arnstein original black and white photograph of him being named the mayor of the USS Macon launch. The USS Macon, named after Macon Georgia, was an airship built and operated by the United States Navy for scouting and served as a "flying aircraft carrier". Karl Arnstein was one of the most important 20th century airship engineers and designers in Germany and the United States. 8 x 10 in.

Condition: Very Good. Sixth Edition. An accompanying letter from Karl Arnstein (then vice president of the Goodyear-Zeppelin Corporation) dated and signed in 1933 asks to withhold an article from being published. Also included is a note on comparing the blimp fleet to the German Zeppelin & an inquiry in pencil with notable answers including "not much" and question marks regarding safety are added. The response to using diesel engines was "working on it" and in regards to Piccard's article on stratospheric travel the response was "fantastic". Signed by Karl Arnstein to front fly. Beige cloth boards with pictorial of an airship to front cover. Numerous black/ white photographs throughout. Book is housed in the original, albeit torn, brown envelope with a stamp of the book. No previous owner's names or other markings.
