Publizist Karl Möring (1810-70) trat nach dem Besuch der Ingenieur-Akademie in das Ingenieur-Korps ein und wirkte an militärischen Bauvorhaben in Mailand, Split, Venedig und Wien mit. Seit 1837 Hauptmann, nahm er an der österr. Intervention in Syrien teil. 1841-43 machte er eine Studienreise durch die USA und war anschließend als Privatlehrer tätig. Während der Revolution 1848 verfaßte Möring unter dem Pseudonym Cameo Flugschriften und gehörte der Frankfurter Nationalversammlung an. 1849 kämpfte er in der österr. Armee in Oberitalien, diente 1853/54 in der Kriegsmarine, danach im Geniestab und im Kriegsministerium. Seit 1868 war Möring Statthalter für Triest und das Küstenland. Mit seinen anonym erschienenen Sibyllinischen Büchern aus Österreich (2 Bde., 1847/48) wurde er zum Sprecher des liberalen Wiener Bürgertums; er forderte die Bildung einer neuen österr.
