Eine echte Rarität , dieses Buch; nicht nur, weil es so selten ist. Auch, weil eine u.a. alleinreisende Frau aus und über Afrika berichtet, und zwar im Wesentlichen, dass die Menschen dort genauso toll, geistreich, redegewandt und liebenswert seien wie wir weißen Europäer. Mindestens. "Wer ist mein Nächster" ? soll heißen, dass sie auch dort, in Afrika, wohnen, die 'Nächsten' . - Für diese Auffassung Paula Karstens war jedoch die Zeit nicht reif zu Beginn des 20ten Jahrhunderts. Sie wurde schikaniert und beleidigt, ihr Werk wurde zensiert und teils sogar von ihrem Verleger geändert, ihr Geisteszustand wurde für gestört erklärt und schlußendlich wurde sie tatsächlich für viele Jahre entmündigt. Sie hatte - und auch noch als Frau - in zu vielen Punkten den damals herrschenden Sichtweisen wiedersprochen, entschieden zuviel Empathie für Afrikaner*innen gezeigt.
