Photograph
Vintage reference photograph from the 1934 France-German "allemande" co-production, showing a miniature scale model of the film set, replete with tiny figurines in costume, lighting design, and architectural detail. Printed mimeo snipe in French, UFA stamp, and annotations in manuscript ink on the verso. An UFA production shot in France, cast with both German and French actors, and in French. Director Reinhold Schünzel was one of the few Jewish directors permitted to continue making films in Germany under the Nazi regime, having been granted the title of Ehrenarier, or "Honorary Aryan," due to his widespread popularity. Schünzel would eventually leave Germany for Hollywood in 1937, in response to interference by the German government in his filmmaking. 9 x 7 inches. Near Fine.
