Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - 'Weather and Wheat Yields at Lincoln College, New Zealand' is a significant scientific study by Dr. E. Kidson exploring the intricate relationship between climatic conditions and agricultural productivity. Focused on the specific region of Lincoln College, this work provides a detailed analysis of how variables such as rainfall, temperature, and seasonal shifts impact the cultivation and eventual harvest of wheat. The study serves as a vital historical record of New Zealand's agricultural history and meteorological data. Dr. Kidson utilizes statistical methods to correlate weather patterns with crop yields, offering insights into the environmental factors that governed the success of cereal farming in the early 20th century. This text is an essential resource for researchers in the fields of agrometeorology, historical geography, and New Zealand's economic history. It illustrates the pioneering efforts to apply scientific measurement to farming practices, highlighting the importance of understanding climate trends for sustainable land management and agricultural planning. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. "[This book] is presented by ex-pupils and friends to Peter Kidson, Professor of Medieval Architecture at the Courtauld Institute, as a mark of respect and affection for arguably the most influential historian of medieval architecture of his generation in the English-speaking world. The essays in this volume reflect the range of Peter Kidson's own interests and are united in following his approach to medieval architecture and art: a determination to see buildings and objects in the intellectual terms of the time in which they were created." -- DJ. Add to basketMint in publishers cloth in like dustjacket (still shrink wrapped). 288pp. Illustrated throughout. In 1768, Joseph Wright left his native city of Derby and moved to Liverpool in search of recognition and success. Earlier the same year he had exhibited the masterly "Experiment on a Bird in the Air-Pump" to great acclaim in London, but he failed to sell the picture, and he would shortly be excluded from the Royal Academy. Liverpool offered him the opportunity to engage with wealthy clients who had little experience of art patronage. Wright painted portraits of the prosperous merchants and their families, and continued to develop the brilliantly illuminated subject paintings on which his reputation chiefly rests. This beautifully illustrated book examines Wright's remarkable impact on the artistic climate of the city of Liverpool, on its cultural institutions, and on the other artists working there. The Merseyside network of merchants, bankers, and amateur and professional artists that Wright encountered in the years around 1770 is identified as his true historical milieu. The exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool will form part of the city's celebrations for the 800th anniversary of its charter in 2007, and its role as European City of Culture in 2008 (17 November 2007 - 24 February 2008). It then moves on to the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven (22 May - 30 August 2008). ISBN 9780300117455.
