Wiseman (c.1622-1676), Sergeant Surgeon to King Charles II, is regarded as one of the founders of English surgery. This volume focuses on the treatment of wounds, gunshot wounds, fractures, and dislocations, preserving one of the most important early surgical texts in the English language. The edition includes an introduction, appendix, and glossary by noted medical historian John Kirkup. An important work for collectors of medical history, military medicine, surgery, orthopedics, and seventeenth-century scientific literature. Wiseman's observations were drawn from both military and civilian practice during the English Civil War era and helped establish surgery as a more systematic and evidence-based discipline.
