In der als Fortsetzung der Thoma'schen Filser-Briefe gedachten Geschichte darf der erzkatholische und frühere Zentrumsabgeordnete Filser zunächst heftig gegen Hitler wettern, um dann im, durch die Nazis aufgezwungenen, Schlusskapitel des "Bolidischen Desdamends" zum Ende seines Lebens zum Nationalsozialismus bekehrt zu werden. Als leider "zu spät Erleuchteter" beichtet er dann seinem Sohn seine Irrtümer über Hitler und die Partei. Kirschner, der eigentlich ein entschiedener Gegner der Nazis war, distanzierte sich später von seinem Erstlingswerk, es war ihm zeitlebens verleidet. Nach der NS-Zeit war er aber trotzdem für seine heimatgeschichtlichen Abhandlungen hochgeehrt und Träger des Bundesverdienstkreuzes. Der von der NSDAP 1920 gekaufte Eher-Verlag, der unter dem NSDAP-Reichsleiter für die Presse Max Amann unaufhörlich wuchs und nahezu die gesamte deutsche Presse kontrollierte, galt Anfang der 1940er-Jahre als größter Pressetrust weltweit.
