Als letzte Kulminationspunkte vor den Freischarenzügen (8. Dezember 1844, bzw. 31. März/1. April 1845) und dem Sonderbundskrieg von 1847 können die Klosteraufhebung im Aargau (Beschluss vom 13. Januar 1841), einerseits, die Berufung der Jesuiten nach Luzern (Beschluss des Luzerner Gr. Rates vom 24. Oktober 1844), andererseits, gesehen werden. - Nicht nur hinsichtlich der katholischen Bevölkerungsteile in den Kantonen, sondern auch für konservative Regierungen wie z.B. im Kanton Zürich zeichneten sich die zunehmenden Spannungen als äusserst bedrohlich ab, so dass sich die übergeordnete Bundesinstanz, die Tagsatzung, ernsthaft herausgefordert sah.
