Kurz vor Kriegsende muss Krüger an die Front, wird wegen Befehlsverweigerung zum Tode verurteilt und überlebt nur knapp. Nach 1945 startet er eine internationale Filmkarriere und spielt an der Seite von Charles Aznavour, John Wayne, James Stewart und Sean Connery. Zeitlebens bleibt Krüger ein Pendler zwischen allen Kontinenten und engagiert sich im Kampf gegen das Vergessen. Er legt sich mit Kanzler Adenauer an, klebt Wahlplakate für die SPD und wird zum Freund Helmut Schmidts. Eindrucksvoll und offen wie kaum ein anderer berichtet Krüger von den Grausamkeiten des Krieges, der Sprachlosigkeit einer ganzen Generation, von Begegnungen mit anderen Religionen und Kulturen und den wichtigsten Stationen seines bewegten Lebens.…
