Soft cover. Condition: Good. Three volume set. Volumes one and two are bound in the original paper wraps with black and red lettering on the covers and spines. Volume two has had gray book cloth pasted to the spine with white paper wraps over the originals, which apart from the spine are still visible. Original wraps on all three volumes are toned, but lettering remains unmarred and legible. Wrinkling along the spines, minor chipping to edges on volume one and three. Tape repair made by previous owner to the wraps on volume three to prevent closed tear from chipping completely - measuring just under two inches in length and half an inch at the widest portion. Binding on all three volumes is tight and secure. Deckled edges on all fore edges of volume one and three and the top and bottom fore edges of volume two. Pages are evenly toned throughout all three volumes. Pages in volumes one and three are otherwise crisp and clean. Volume two has discoloration to its pages along the gutter throughout, though text is largely unaffected and still remains legible. Eight plates in volume three, printed in B&W and in very good condition. Volume one contains text in French, German, and English. Volumes two and three seem to be translated into German only. 123 pages in volume one, 285 in volume two, and 252 in volume three. Title pages of volumes one and two are dated 1931. Il est à peine nécessaire d'insister sur la valeur intrinsèque de cet inestimable papyrus de Hambourg, que Kahle pouvait déjà dater du IIIe-IVe siècle. Rares sont les papyri grecs ou coptes qui peuvent rivaliser d'antiquité et d'autorité avec le nôtre. Faut-il préciser que celui-ci est l'un des plus anciens manuscrits coptes au monde et l'un des plus longs , nous livrant la plus grande portion de trois Livres vétérotestamentaires dans un subdialiecte des plus archaïques? L'édition elle-même, confiée en premier lieu au P. Angelicus M. Kropp, pour la partie copte, et à C. Voigt, pour la partie grecque, reprise et réactualisée, après leur mort, par B. J. Diebner et R. Kasser, a pu enfin se réaliser grâce aux efforts conjugés de ces deux derniers savants. Un témoin de cette qualité, apportant une contribution irremplaçable à la critique textuelle des Septante, pourra difficilement être ignoré du bibliste. Le papyrologue, pour sa part, trouvera là matière à enrichir ses connaissances. Le coptisant, bien entendu, ne sera pas en reste: guidé par la recherche de M. Kasser et par ses copieux index, il sera à même d'utiliser ces textes pour l'étude d'un subdialecte jusqu'ici non attesté, ce qui laisse présager une meilleure intelligence de la linguistique copte (et, par elle, de l'égyptologie).
