Add to basketFirst and only edition, extremely uncommon, just two locations on WorldCat both in the Netherlands - Haagse Defensiebibliothek and Het Legermuseum, Delft. Classified "Geheim" - secret - this report gathers Turk and Rovers' technical observations from a tour of naval shipyards through Germany - Wilhelmshaven, Bremen and Kiel; Poland - Stettin and Elbing; Russia - St Petersburg and Kronstadt; Nicolayev in the Ukraine, and Chernomorets in Bulgaria. Unsurprisingly they were particularly interested in recent developments in weaponry and armour-cladding, and in the widespread introduction of torpedo-boats. Interesting document of the first stirrings of the Naval Arms Race. Foolscap folio, [ii], 20pp. 3 large folding lithographic plates featuring details of ship fittings and dockside equipment. Original black pebble-grain cloth-backed printed boards. A little rubbed, the boards a touch browned, text somewhat foxed, but overall very good.
