He was an Italian Renaissance architect and urban planner and citizen of the Republic of Venice. He is known for his work in both military fortifications and civil architecture, in which he combined classical Roman elements with contemporary Renaissance designs. The study includes his famous Venetian fortifications, the Porta Palio (Verona), and various palaces.

Sanmicheli (1484?-1559) distinguished himself as the most versatile of the Hi Renaissance architects of Northern Italy. His masterpieces include military architecture, domestic and ecclesiastical works such as the Pellegrini Chapel the Church of San Bernardino; the Fort of San Andrea, Venice; and the Palazzo Grimani at San Luca. Many of the plates have more than one illustration. Bookplate. Name in ink on endpaper. Very good to near fine.
