Add to basketFirst edition. Small 8vo. 168 pp. Original grey cloth, spine and front cover lettered in red, dust jacket (faint toning to paperstock, single small spot to fore-edge of text-block, contents otherwise generally unmarked; jacket unevenly toned with light wear to extremities, a very good copy). London, George Allen and Unwin Ltd. An official publication of the Labour Party issued to mark the centenary of the Communist Manifesto, with a substantial 93-page historical introduction by the political theorist Harold Laski. The text of the Manifesto reproduced is that of the 1888 Authorised English translation, retaining the various prefaces and Engels's explanatory footnotes. The book was published when Britain was still experiencing post-War paper rationing and the dust jackets were printed on the backs of surplus military maps, with the copy presented here showing part of the South China Sea.
