Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. The DJ has some slight edge wear. The blue cloth boards are nice with slight wear seen. The hinges and the spine are good. 729 pages. The inside pages are bright and look unmarked. A number of black and white illustrations seen in various places in the book. Also 8 pages of color plates near the begining of the book. Also laid in is an envelope with a white card that says Pamela Harer In gradtitute, Lawrence April 2003. Presumed to be from the author. The book is large and will require extra shipping charges for all International orders and also domestic Priority orders.

First edition. *'In 1787 William Darton began engraving and printing books especially for children. Over the next 60 years his firm published more than 1,600 books for children and young people, and some 50 games and educational aids. A separate publishing house was set up in 1804 by his son, also named William. The books published by the Dartons were especially significant in the evolution of Victorian book design' [wrapper blurb].
