Add to basketWarszawa; Nasza Ksiegarnia. 1957. Landscape royal 8vo. Original pictorial card covers, double-page pictorial endleaves; pp. [24]; illustrated in colour throughout; a very good copy with rubbing and light wear to spine (although no splitting), some overall light dusting, and a couple of wrinkles to lower edge; internally very good and sound with an extensive, but neat, gift inscription to front blank, dated 1958, one small adhesion (20mm) affecting two opposing illustrations, and a few other minor signs of handling; elusive.First edition illustrated thus, second printing, issued in the same year as the first. This is the Polish edition of the American author Munro Leaf's children's classic The Story of Ferdinand (1936) which is translated by Irena Tuwim, who had also undertaken the first translations into Polish of A.A. Milne's Winnie-The-Pooh and The House At Pooh Corner. Robert Lawson's original illustrations are replaced by those of Maria Orlowska, whose work shares certain characteristics with the later style of the English illustrator Errol John Le Cain. Only 4 copies of this book are listed on WorldCat: 2 examples of the first printing (Princeton and NY Public Library) and 2 of the second printing (Staatsbibliothek Zu Berlin and Sikjm, Switzerland). Leaf's book also appeared in Polish, in the same year, published by Biuro Wydawnicze "Ruch" with alternative illustrations by Andrzej Wiercienski.
