Immediately after World War I, the main motif of antisemitic attacks was "Jewish Bolshevism"; in the 1930s it was the power of "international Jewry". Antisemitism was manifested in social discrimination, and in the 1930s also in verbal and physical attacks against Jews. Discusses various groups: The Britons Society, founded in 1919 by Henry Beamish; the Imperial Fascist League, founded in 1932 by Arnold Leese, with a program for the solution of the "Jewish question"; and the British Union of Fascists, founded in 1932, which was relatively moderate concerning treatment of Jews, but enjoyed mass support. Examines reactions to fascist antisemitism by the political establishment, Jewish organizations, and the radical Left. While the split within British Jewry impeded their active struggle against fascism, the Left proved to be more successful. Contends that British fascists exploited latent anti-Jewish prejudices among the masses under conditions of economic crisis.
