Condition: Very Good -. 3, [1] p.; 34 cm. "Miscellaneous. No. 4 (1916)." The four documents relate to German women and children being taken from India to England. The prisoners of war whose families were being taken on the S.S. Golconda requested that "everything be done to assure the safety of the passengers," including notifying "belligerent nations" of the identification and route of the ship and marking the ship to denote its purpose. Sir Edward Grey responded to the American ambassador's communications by expressing his astonishment that the Austro-Hungarian government endorsed the request, as "the Austro-Hungarian and German Governments are alone responsible" for the potential danger to the ship from submarine attacks. The S.S. Golconda successfully transported its German passengers to London but struck a German mine and sank in the North Sea in June 1916. In Very Good- Condition: lightly soiled; just starting to separate from edges at two horizontal folds.
