Erstdruck von " Eccardi Leichneri Saltzunga-Thuringi, D. & Prof. Med. in antiqua Erfurtina De Philosophica Scholarum Emendatione Isagogicon ". Eckard Leichner (1612-1690), "geb. in Salzungen am 15. Januar 1612, am 29. August 1690 in Erfurt, Sohn eines Wirthes, besuchte die Gymnasien zu Eisenach und Coburg und bezog 1631 die Universität Straßburg, wo er zunächst Philosophie und Theologie studirte, sich aber 1633 zur Medicin wandte, welches Studium er 1636 in Jena fortsetzte; nachdem er hierauf seit 1638 in Weimar, Sondershausen und Nordhausen als Arzt practicirt und 1640 ein Physicat in Ohrdruff bei Gotha erlangt hatte, erwarb er in Jena am 29. Octbr. 1643 die medicinische Doctorwürde und wurde bald darauf (1644) in die medicinische Facultät der Erfurter Universität aufgenommen, wo er 1646 ordentlicher Professor wurde, woneben er 1658 das Amt eines Stadtphysikus übernahm. Er war ein äußerst streitbarer Herr, welcher, als er keinen Verleger mehr fand, die Mehrzahl seiner Schriften auf eigene Kosten drucken ließ; da er dieselben an alle Welt verschickte, kam er in eine ausgedehnte Correspondenz, z. B. auch mit Oldenburg, Boyle, Conring und Spener. Er wollte den logischen Unterricht an Gymnasien und Universitäten reformiren und verfaßte hierzu von 1652 bis 1687 nicht weniger als 16 Schriften (z. B. "Apodictica scolarum emendatio" oder "Verae philosophiae idea generalis" oder "Clavis analytica" u. dgl.), in welcher er die cartesianische Logik bekämpfte und an der Hand des Aristoteles den Unterschied zwischen dem Gebiete der Meinung und dem wahrhaft analytischen Verfahren erörterte. Betreffs der Psychologie aber trat er in den Schriften "De generatione seu propagativa animalium multiplicatione" (1649) und "De indivisibili et totali animae existentia" (1650) als heftiger Gegner des Aristoteles und des sog. Generatianismus auf, indem er sich für den Inducianismus, d. h. Präexistenz der Seele erklärte; der Naturphilosophie gehörten an "De atomorum subcoelestium syndiacrisi" (1645) und "Anti-Cartesius" (1686), worin er auch gegen Le Grand stritt. In der Medicin bekämpfte er heftigst durch "De motu sanguinis exercitatio Anti-Harveiana" (1665) und "De cordis constitutione" (1657) die Lehre Harvey's über den Blutumlauf; unter Polemik gegen J. B. van Helmont legte er seine eigene Ansicht in "Archaeus synopticus" (1674), einer Art Encyclopõdie der internen Medicin, und in "De principiis medicis" (1675) nieder, woneben er auch über Pest und Ruhr schrieb und zwischen 1657 und 1690 einzelne 16 Dissertationen verfaßte. Im Gebiete der Theologie veröffentlichte er "De Magorum tempore" (1655), worin er zu beweisen versuchte, daß die drei Könige erst lange Zeit nach Jesu Geburt eingetroffen seien, und "Der fanatische Atheist aus des Ertz-Enthusiasten Jacob Böhmens gottlosen Büchern" (1679), was er unter dem Namen eines seiner Bekannten, Johann Müller, herausgab."
