'Teriade had always found room for selections from French illuminated manuscripts in Verve's early 'miscellaneous or general issues.' With Verve No. 7, this predilection was in full flood. The Calendar from Les Tres Riches Heures du Duc de Berry inaugurated a series devoted exclusively to illuminated texts from the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth centuries. Verve Nos. 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14/15, 16, and 23--which spanned a nine-year period--attest to the importance Teriade attached to this art form.'
