Wrappers, boards and chemise worn, some loss to upper wrapper, internally lightly soiled consistent with heavy use, with many manuscript additions and over 50 pasted in slips. x, 28, 22, [2], 29-52pp. Singapore, printed at the Government Printing Office by J. E. Tyler, Government Printer, An excellent example of a very rare Singapore imprint. These government regulations which belonged to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Norman Lidstone Lindon (1892-1965).   Lindon has annotated the work throughout and tipped in both typescripts and printed slips as regulations were updated. An excellent example of a working copy, 39 pages feature corrections, deletions, and cancellations. The tipped in slips frequently update the original text.   The regulations cover areas such as hiring (with separate section for Europeans, Malays, Chinese, Sikhs, and others) expenses, the scope of duties, training, discipline, pay, examinations, equipment, and provisions for leave and illness. At the end of the book there's a tipped in slip grimly noting "charges for burial of unclaimed dead" and listing different rates for adults and children.   Lindon spent the whole of his career serving on the Malay Peninsula in the colonial police force, rising to the position of Superintendent of Police in the 1930s.   Given their institutional holdings, these regulations were seemingly printed in small numbers, this copy being number 23.    Rare: not in OCLC, not in BL, not in National Library Board of Singapore.
