Lindt (geb. 1905, Bern, gest. 2000, ebd.): «Rechtsstud. in Bern und Genf, 1927 Promotion. 1929-40 arbeitete L. als Bankangestellter und Journalist im In- und Ausland. 1941-45 war er Informationschef von Heer und Haus. L. vertrat eine klar ablehnende Haltung gegenüber dem Dritten Reich und stellte sich damit gegen Leute wie Gustav Däniker. Vom Okt. 1945 bis 1946 war er Delegierter einer Sondermission des IKRK in Berlin. Ab Nov. 1946 arbeitete er für das Eidg. Polit. Departement (EPD, heute EDA), erst als Pressesprecher in Bern, dann als Legationsrat in London. 1953-56 war er UNO-Beobachter (ab 1955 bevollmächtigter Minister) in New York. L. hatte wichtige Ämter in versch. UN-Organisationen inne, so präsidierte er 1952 das Exekutivkomitee der Unicef und 1953 die Opium-Konferenz, leitete 1956 die schweiz. Delegation an der Konferenz über das Statut der Internat. Atomenergie-Agentur und war 1956-60 Hochkommissar für Flüchtlinge. 1960-62 war er Schweizer Botschafter in Washington, anschliessend Delegierter der techn. Zusammenarbeit des Eidg. Polit. Departements, 1966-68 Botschafter in Moskau, 1968-69 Generalkommissär des IKRK in Afrika während des Kriegs in Biafra, später Botschafter in Indien und Nepal und 1973-75 Berater des Präs. der Republik Ruanda (ein 1963-75 von der Schweiz zur Verfügung gestelltes Amt).
