Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Edward Ardizzone (illustrator). 1st Edition. A title in Bodley Head's "Fairy Tale Picture Books" series under the general editorship of Kathleen Lines. Illustrated with alternate spreads in color and black & white by the ever-wonderful Ardizzone. Lines contributes an essay at the back of the book about the origins of the "Babes in the Wood" ballad. Minor shelfwear, but a near fine copy in very good, slightly edgeworn dust jacket with a couple of short closed tears to top edge, and some general brown spotting. Nice copy of an uncommon book with the jacket.
Second printing. Hardcover. Small quarto. Fine in pictorial boards. Illustrated in colour by Ardizzone, who has given the story it's correct historical setting--that of the late Middle Ages. Lines provides a fine historical note at the end of the book.
