The inscription of one William Halliburton to the head of the first leaf dated 1734/5.This study is split into two, with the first section in Greek and the second in Latin. With separate pagination and register.ESTC reference no T87451.Printed in Edinburgh by the Ruddimans of Edinburgh. The names to this imprint are that of printer, scholar and librarian Thomas Ruddiman and his nephew, Walter Ruddiman.'On the Sublime' is a Roman-era Greek work of literary criticism. Its origins are believed to be 1st century AD and the author is unknown. They are conventionally referred to as Longinus or Pseudo-Loginus.This work is regarded as a classic study on aesthetics and good writing. In a contemporary full calf binding. Externally, rubbed to the spine and to the extremities. Former owner's inscriptions to the endpapers and to pages 106 of part I and page I of part II. Loss to the head and tail of spine.
