Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Why do billions of people readily embrace belief in the virtue of religious faith Explore the virtues we value and seek to uphold, and discover the role religion and politics play in our beliefs concerning virtue. Our virtuous aims lie at the heart of our manner of examining and method of questioning what we hold to be true concerning the world and religious faith. VIRTUE presents an opportunity for readers to examine religious faith and its measure while it lays bare our desires for and pursuit of virtue. From a position of clarity concerning our manner of thinking and beliefs, the focus on virtue is directed toward universal virtues we can embrace, value, and pursue in our daily living for the benefits they bestow. Where your virtue lies will shock your faith and will challenge you to embrace yourself and others in a better way.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Gordon Loud. The Megiddo Ivories. Chi: University of Chicago Press, 1939, 1st. printing, xii, 26 pp., plates [66 pp.]. *** The ancient city of Megiddo, now known as Megiddo Tel, is located on a hilltop at the head of a pass through Carmel Ridge, overlooking the Jezreel Valley in northern Israel. The city, aka by its Greek name Armageddon, was continuously inhabited by various peoples from 7000 to 586 BC. The Megiddo Ivories were found in a stratum dating back to the city's destruction in the Late Bronze Age, c. 1150 BC. At the time these ivories were the largest such cache ever found. Typically spread through the Mediterranean Basin by Phoenecian traders, these ivories appear to have stylistic elements that are Egyptian, Mesopotamian, and perhaps Minoan. *** In this folio volume there is a brief history of the Ivories, a list of illustrations, a section with a description for each of the ivory specimens, and sixty-four (64) quality b&w photo plates or drawings, many actual size. This book is in my inventory and the images are of this particular item. Very scarce work. *** Bound in tan cloth boards and a dark brown cloth spine with gilt lettering. The covers are clean with light wear at corners. Matching shallow dent on top edge of both covers. The contents are clean and complete in a good binding. Front free end paper has owners' names in small script in top right corner, and two small pencil notations. One ink mark near bottom of title page. VG+. *** 16 inches tall by 11.75 inches.

Rare. The University of Chicago Oriental Institute Publications, Volume LII. The University of Chicago, Chicago, 1939. First edition. Elephant folio, xi & 25 pages, 63 plates. Original cloth with boards, small scratches on the covers, minor soiling to edges, otherwise a very good, unmarked copy. Signature of a previous owner on the first (blank) page. From the library of Egyptologist Charles Cornell Van Siclen III (VSX). This volume is a detailed catalog of ivories recovered from the treasury of the early 12th-century palace at Megiddo (modern Tell el-Mutesellim). The ivories are on display at the Oriental Institute of Chicago and the Rockefeller Museum in Jerusalem. They were found in the stratum VIIA, or Late Bronze Age layer of the site.
