Illustrated with numerous color photographic reproductions, the central focus of this monographic catalogue is Zenita, as a woman, an individual, an artist, a part of the art community. The goal is nothing less than tearing down the walls between art and life. She has succeeded in doing this light-handedly, without any proclamations of pathos, with a twinkle in her eye. She draws from the world of things, of commodities, ideas and art, selecting what appears useful to her, transforming it and incorporating it in her "Zenita Universe" in the guise of texts, images, reliefs, sculptures, but usually hybrids and ensembles that transgress the boundaries of genres. Komad's oeuvre reveals great stylistic openness, even when she has elaborated a repertory of signs and symbols to which she returns time and again. It is striking how often the eye figures as a mode of expression in her pictures either in realistic form or in the style of a comic even from the light bulb head of her air work, which we can also read as a personification of the artist such wide-open eyes stare at a world replete with miracles and mysteries, waiting for something to appear in full light. August Lucas zeichnete bereits im Alter von 14 Jahren nach graphischen Vorlagen, aber auch nach der Natur. 1819-1824 war er Schüler der Darmstädter Museumszeichenschule bei dem Galeriedirektor F.H. Müller (1784-1835). Im Odenwald betrieb er darüber hinaus gemeinsam mit J.H. Schilbach (1798-1851) Landschaftsstudien. 1825 führte ihn eine Studienreise mit D. Fohr (1801-1862) ins Berner Oberland. Im gleichen Jahr ging er zum Weiterstudium nach München und wurde an der Kunstakademie von P. von Cornelius (1783-1867) unterrichtet. Das Studium brach er jedoch 1826 aufgrund mangelnden Interesses an der Historienmalerei ab und kehrte nach Darmstadt zurück. In den beiden darauffolgenden Jahren betrieb er erneut Studien in und um Darmstadt. Mit finanzieller Unterstützung der großherzoglichen Erbprinzessin Mathilde reiste er 1829 über Mailand nach Italien. In Rom wurde er gemeinsam mit dem Darmstädter Maler P.W. App (1803-1855) in den Künstlerkreis der Ponte-Molle-Gesellschaft aufgenommen. Von Rom aus unternahm er Ausflüge in die Albaner und Sabiner Berge, 1832 eine Reise über Neapel nach Sorrent und Capri. In Rom trat er auch in Kontakt zu J.A. Koch (1768-1839). Erst 1834 kehrte Lucas nach Deutschland in seine Geburtsstadt zurück. Eine erneute Romreise ist für das Jahr 1850 zu verzeichnen. In Darmstadt war er als freischaffender Künstler tätig, verdiente sich zudem später auch als Privatlehrer seinen Lebensunterhalt. 1861 war er einer der Mitbegründer der Darmstädter Künstlergesellschaft.

Provenienz: Sammlung Hugo von Ritgen, Giessen. 1834 kehrte Lucas von seinem ersten Italienaufenthalt in seine Heimat zurück. Das Blatt stammt aus einem Skizzenbuch, das der Künstler zwischen 1836 und 1842, während seiner zweiten Darmstädter Zeit (1834 - 1849) angefertigt hat. 1850 folgte dann die zweite Studienreise nach Italien.
