Nach lyrischen Anfängen im Kreis der Aachener Expressionisten um Walter Hasenclever und Philipp Keller lebte Ludwig Strauß (1892-1953) zunächst als freier Schriftsteller und Dramaturg, bevor er als Germanist an der TH Aachen lehrte. Seine Emigration nach Palästina 1935 verstand er als Heimkehr und veröffentlichte fortan auch in hebräischer Sprache. Mit Exlibris und privater, deutschsprachiger Geschenkwidmung von 1944 aus Buenos Aires. Der Vorderdeckel und die Vorsatzpapiere stärker stockfleckig, sonst noch ordentliches, wohlerhaltenes Exemplar. Dem Titelblatt folgt eine Seite mit der gedruckten Widmung "Dem Europäer Ludwig Bauer", die Emil Ludwig als persönliche Widmung eigenhändig mit Bleistift um die Worte "l'Allemand Ludwig" ergänzt hat. Der Band trägt auf dem vorderen Innendeckel das Klebes…childchen der Pariser Buchhandlung Ricour et Chevillet, die Widmung gilt dem Schriftsteller und Journalisten L. Bauer (1876-1935), der 1933 als Redakteur der Baseler National-Zeitung bereits in der Schweiz lebte, 1934 in Amsterdam seine Biographie des belgischen Königs "Leopold der Ungeliebte" veröffentlicht hatte und nicht mehr nach Deutschland zurückkehrte. Der Rücken ist oben und unten bestoßen und weist kleine Fehlstellen im Leinen auf. Das hintere Innengelenk ist aufgeplatzt und eine Seite trägt Randbemerkungen mit Bleistift in französischer Sprache. Trotz der stärkeren Gebrauchsspuren handelt es sich um ein noch ordentliches Exemplar. Widmung des Verfassers.
