This book is a thorough review of the 1888 report by the Royal Education Commission, created to investigate England's 1870 Elementary Education Act. The commission looked into the impact of the act, including the quality and availability of schools and the efficacy of attendance mandates. The report suggests that since the act, the supply of school places had risen to accommodate almost all children of school age, however, there was still room for improvement in overall attendance. There were concerns about school quality, with the commission finding that while the quality of buildings had improved, great differences remained in the amenities and space provided to students. The report also examined issues of school management and funding, concluding that while local voluntary management was often effective in maintaining a close relationship with teachers and parents, more funding would be needed to make up for a drop in local contributions and donations. In broad terms, the commission found that the act had been successful in bringing many more children into schools, but that there was still some way to go to ensure that all children had access to quality education. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. As referenced in the title, for sale here are ten original issues of the University of Illinois Bulletin that were published between the years 1926 and 1931. Four of these issues, once listed, will be the Only ones for sale anywhere on the Internet. Four of the others have one or a couple of copies for sale, the least expensive of each of these is priced respectively at $20.00, $30.00, $35.00, and $35.00 again. Two others have only one seller, asking a price of $109.00 for each. My overall price is obviously very discounted despite the excellent condition of all the issues. Here are the their titles from the earliest to the latest: A Metallographic Study of the Path of Fatigue Failure in Copper, Tests of the Fatigue Strength of Steam Turbine Blade Shapes, An Investigation of the Friability of Different Coals, A Study of Fatigue Cracks in Car Axles (Part II), Results of Tests on Sewage Treatment, The Measurement of Air Quantities and Energy Losses in Mine Entries (Part IV), A Study of Slip Lines, Strain Lines, and Cracks in Metals under Repeated Stress, Heat Transfer in Ammonia Condensers (Part III), The Treatment of Water for Ice Manufacture, and finally, An Investigation of Core Oils. The authors, in the same order are 1) Herbert F. Moore and Frank C. Howard, 2) Herbert F. Moore and Stuart W. Lyon and Norville J. Alleman, 3) Clyde M. Smith, 4) Herbert F. Moore and Stuart W. Lyon and Norville J. Alleman, 5) Harold E. Babbitt and Harry E. Schlenz, 6) Clyde M. Smith, 7) Herbert F. Moore and Tibor Ver, 8) Alonzo P. Kratz and Horace J. MacIntire and Richard E. Gould, 19) Dana Burks Jr., and finally 10) Carl H. Casberg and Carl E. Schubert. As mentioned, all of the issues are in excellent condition. I've scrolled through the pages of each. They are exceptionally clean. I think I saw one small spot in one of them. I certainly could've missed a few others, but they are that clean. I saw some light creasing at the top corner of one issue. I didn't notice any other creasing. I didn't see any markings in any of the issues. There are no attachments in any of the issues. There is no writing of any kind in any of the issues. All have stapled bindings. All are very solidly bound with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. Note that the photos show an eleventh bulletin. That one was subsequently sold as an individual item. The cost of purchasing one individually will range between $50 and $60.
