A Native of North Uist, Macfarlane was ordained and inducted into the Free Church ministry at Strathconan in 1876. He served as minister at Moy and Kilmallie. One of the original Free Presbyterian ministers, he served in Dingwall until his death in 1926. No inscriptions. Gilt titles to spine. Minor soiling to covers. Light wear to spine ends. A very good copy.

(Undated; Charles Macfarlane's 'Civil and Military History of England', edited and revised in four volumes by Thomas N. Thomson as 'The Comprehensive History of England', was released in two successive editions dated 1856-61 and 1876-78. This is likely the earlier issue.).

Leather spine and corners with bright green boards and marbled page edges. There is very light foxing to end papers and a slight split internally to front boards but externally sound. It has a subtitle From the Earliest Period to The Suppression of the Sepoy Revolt.

Double title page - first has engraving illustration of Windsor from the North West. 'Illustrated by above one thousand engravings'. Page edges marbled. Interior very good indeed. Heavy item - extra postage required. Photos available on request. Would look very handsome on a bookshelf.
