Eine solche schien nicht überflüssig zu sein. Es ist in dem germanischen Teil der Neumannschen Arbeit in den meisten Fällen nicht diejenige altdeutsche. Form zu Grunde gelegt, auf die das romanische Lehnwort unmittelbar zurückgeht, also von vornherein auf das einzige Mittel verzichtet worden, einen genauen Einblick in das Schicksal germanischer Laute im Romanischen zu gewinnen und Aufschluss zu erhalten über die Zeit der Aufnahme und über den Dialekt, dem das Lehnwort entnommen.Dieses Buch ist ein Nachdruck der historischen Originalausgabe von 1887.
