Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dark red cloth, lettered in gilt. Stated 25th Edition, designated as "Vol. I" on front cover. Cover cloth darkened toward some edges and along spine panel (likely smoke damage), endpapers dampstained and stained by cover dye, page edges darkened, some leaves detached (but intact). Quite worn but complete and still useful copy, sold as is, with all faults. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Book.

Sheet Music. Condition: Good. Three sheets bound with cloth tears. Small closed tears to edges. No date, blind embossed publisher's mark numbered 21 10 91. Initialed ML and HB in seperate hands in ink over the name Lawson on the front cover. Signed by Composer.

This copy is in near fine condition bound in burgundy cloth covered boards with bright gilt titling to the spine and the upper board where there is also a blind thistle device. This copy is bright, tight, white and square There are some typical rubs and bumps to the extremities. There is a pencilled signature to the f.e.p. and a stamp of the issuing bookseller (Paterson, Sons & Co. Glasgow) A dustwrapper is not called for. This copy is from the seventh edition which is undated however the attractive tissue guarded frontispiece 'Proud Maisie' is by Frederick Sandys. The drawing is one of a series that Sandys made in 1867, each of which is known by the title Proud Maisie, and which was inspired by Walter Scott's poem Proud Maisie. The text of the poem, is set to music by Malcolm Lawson and is included in this book (pp 33). Ref AAA 1.

Contains many pages of sheet music and an original advertisement leaf at the rear.Macleod and Boulton wished to bring to the public a variety of traditional Scottish melodies that are less well-known to the public, using both Lowland and Highland dialects. Songs include those with lyrics written by Robert Crawford, Sir Walter Scott and Robert Burns. In the publisher's original brown cloth. Externally, smart, with the odd mark to the extremities, including three marks to right edge of front board. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities. Minor rubbing to the front joint and edgewear. Slight offsetting to the free end paper, and the odd faint spot to paste downs. Internally, firmly bound.
