The editor states it would be very difficult to find another book so full of instruction for the young Anglo - Indian administrator when this work was published vin 1844. 8vo , 2vols Pp, xxxvi , 447[1] fold out map ; ix, [1] 368, a page of catalogue slips. Original green cloth covered boards , with gilt title on front covers and spines which are slightly faded , all though there is some shelf wear on the whole the books are good . A very interesting and informative set of its time.

Volume 5 in Constable's Oriental Miscellany of Original and Selected Publications. Provenance: Sir Walter Crocker, with his ownership details in both volumes ('W.R. Crocker || Delhi | 1960'), and his occasional pencilled emphases and commentary (such as 'A fascinating book | The Empire at its best'). Sir Walter Russell Crocker (1902-2002), diplomat, academic, and author, was at that time Australian High Commissioner to India. Loosely inserted is a related newspaper clipping from 1960. [2 items].
