Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good Plus. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Editon. 1959. Signed by 2nd Earl Haig for John Terraine. First edition. vii, 152pp. including a colour portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, and many black and white illustrations and various advertisements. This is a history of the British Legion Scotland since its foundation by Field-Marshal Earl Haig of Bemersyde in 1921. Though the book is primarily an historical record of the British Legion scotland, the writer has succeeded in creating a human story of the men and women who have laboured long in its service. The book is bound in the original dark blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and a gold stamped emblem on the front board. The book is in excellent condition with light bumping to the spine ends and the contents are tight and clean. The front free endpaper has been inscribed thus by the 2nd Earl Haig: "To John Terraine from British Legion Scotland - Haig of Bemersyde (National Vice Chairman) Xmas 1961." The unclipped dustwrapper has some shelf wear and light soiling, mostly visible on the back. Up to about 1/2" is missing from the top of the spine. There is a tear of about 3 1/2" with some surrounding creasing on the top rear spine corner that extends into the back of the wrapper and a tear of about 1" on the top rear edge. The tears have been repaired on the reverse with tape. SIGNED COPY.
