Signed books by Kenyatta are exceedingly rare, there is only one on abe, an earlier edition of this one, but only in fair condition, and the asking price is almost £8,000. "Jomo Kenyatta ( c. 1897 - 22 August 1978) was a Kenyan anti-colonial activist, revolutionary, political theorist, cultural theorist and politician who governed Kenya as its Prime Minister from 1963 to 1964 and then as its first President from 1964 to his death in 1978. He was the country's first president and played a significant role in the transformation of Kenya from a colony of the British Empire into an independent republic. Ideologically an African nationalist and a conservative, he led the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party from 1961 until his death." This is the 1961 sixth reprint of the book, signed without inscription on the pastedown in green ink, as he often did, and dated 22/2/64. There is light wear only to the brown boards, gilt titles on black title square on spine, the edges are tanned, there is a pencil notation top of the ffep, otherwise the pages are clean, binding is tight. Unclipped dust jacket has some general wear, toned spine, light foxing/toning to front cover, moreso to rear cover, edge wear with a few closed tears, two of which are small, one of which is 6cm (2.5"). Dispatched from the UK same or next working day. NB: Due to the stupidity of Brexit, parcels sent to the EU may incur additional customs charges. Signed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. Illustrated by Cobbold, Brian (Photography) (illustrator). First Edition. Signed and inscribed by Jomo Kenyatta atop front free endpaper. "One of the first really competent and instructive contributions to African ethnography by a scholar of pure African heritage. Through his upbringing Mr. Kenyatta combines to an unusual extent the knowledge of Western ways and Western modes of thought with a training and outlook essentially African. As a first-hand account of a representative African culture, as an invaluable document in the principles underlying culture-contact and change; last, not least, as a personal statement of the new outlook of a progressive African, this book will rank as a pioneering achievement of outstanding merit." - Introduction.
