From 1900 to 1929 he was also director of the Champagne Oenological Station, a viticultural laboratory at Fort Chabrol, Épernay. The station served both as a practical school of viticulture, training winegrowers in grafting techniques, and as a laboratory for studying rootstocks imported from America to combat mildew.
