Première édition, rare, de l'ouvrage dans lequel le physicien suédois Manne Siegbahn (1886-1978) résume ses travaux sur la spectroscopie par rayons X, qui lui valurent le prix Nobel de physique en 1924. Manne Siegbahn étudia à l'Université de Lund. Dès les années 1910, il s'intéresse à la spectrographie de haute précision. En 1916, il met au point avec Stenström, le premier spectromètre à rayons X sous vide, qui permet d'augmenter considérablement l'intensité du rayonnement et de parvenir à des mesures de précision qui sont à l'origine de nombreux développements dans la théorie quantique et la physique atomique. Ses observations sur la structure atomique ont jeté les bases empiriques de la théorie quantique. Quelques pages un peu gondolées.…
