The letter reads: 'The Speaker presents his Compts to Mr Sherwood, and begs to return his best thanks for the work he has just received - The Speaker feels assured that Mr Sherwoods experience in and attention to the Private business of the House will have enabled him to collect much useful information on this subject so important to the Public at large | Palace Yard | Feby. 6 | 1828'. The full title of Sherwood's book was 'A Treatise on the Proceedings to be adopted by Members in conducting Private Bills through the House of Commons'.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Illustrated by Seven Fold-Out Plates (illustrator). Full calf leather binding in fair condition. Scuffing and wear to the covers, leather loss at corners and edges. Paper label on spine, "Hitt on Trees." The leather on the spine is split, but the text block is still tight. Front and rear boards are attached and tight. Foxing on end pages and throughout the text. Ex-libris stamp on front paste-down "Library of E. S. Ely Freedonia, NY" and another previous owner's signature on front free end page and Ely's name in ink on top of title page. All seven fold out copperplates are present and complete. Two of them, plates # 5 & 7, have closable tears in the margins where the plate is attached to the text block. The illustrations are not affected. Plate seven is a bit crumpled from not being folded correctly. Despite the stated flaws the plates are in good condition. ; Book consists of a three page preface, 177 pages of text, four page index a a page of printer's instructions for the placement of the foldout plates. ; folding copper plate engravings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; v, 177 + [5] pages.
