Bound in plain (unprinted) blue stiff card covers, with a black spine. Edges of the cover are mildly faded, with closed tears and a few tiny chips. Internal condition is FINE. NO owner's… name or bookplate. Pages have text on one-side (rectos) only. This is probably a typescript carbon copy. Handwritten symbols and diagrams have been added to the text, as well as a few ink corrections (apparently by the author). Pages are otherwise clean and crisp. Gottlob Freges. Bertrand Russell. Subtitle: "Dissertation zur Erlangung des Doktorgrades der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Hamburg." Bierich's faculty advisors for this doctoral thesis were Prof. Dr. J. Kà nig and Prof. Dr. W. Flitner. On the front cover is a brief note: "Pers[onal?] from author." This is one of several dozen books and periodicals from Alonzo Church's library that we were lucky enough to purchase at auction in New Jersey. Several of the books contain his signature, or a presentation inscription to him. Unfortunately, this copy does not have those signs of his ownership. [But please check our inventory for several others that do]. Alonzo Church (1903 - 1995) was professor of mathematics at Princeton University (1929-1967) and of mathematics and philosophy at UCLA (1967-1990). He was the founding editor of the JOURNAL OF SYMBOLIC LOGIC. Among his most influential contributions are Church's Theorem, Church's Thesis, the Church-Turing Thesis, and the Lambda Calculus. His work was of major importance in mathematical logic, recursion theory, theoretical computer science, and functional programming languages in general. Professor Church's creation of lambda calculus was the foundation for the LISP programming language and provided the semantic model for ALGOL. Church was first to demonstrate that David Hilbert's Entscheidungsproblem was unsolvable. It was Church who coined the phrase "Turing machine" for Alan Turing's hypothetical universal computing machine. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences, British Academy, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Church is regarded by many as the greatest American logician of the 20th century. Mit der Verabschiedung der 4. Richtlinie und… dem Entwurf der 7. Richtlinie ist die EG der Realisierung des gesteckten Vorhabens - bei allen strittigen und offe nen Fragen - ein wesentliches Stück näher gerüdn. Die Umsetzung der nach intensiven Vorarbeiten, Vorschlägen und Erörterungen entstandenen Richt linien in nationales Recht wirft eine Fülle von alten und neuen Grundsatz und Detailfragen auf; diese werden Gesetzgeber und Unternehmen, öko nomen und Juristen in Wissenschaft und Praxis bis zur Verabschiedung eines Gesetzes zur Umsetzung in nationales Recht lebhaft beschäftigen. Forum für die Erörterung und Klärung dieser Probleme sollten zwei Veranstaltungen im Jahre 1979 sein, deren Beiträge in dem vorliegenden Band wiedergegeben werden. Am 2. und 3. Mai 1979 fand in Schloß Gracht ein Symposion unter dem Thema 'Rechnungslegung aufgrund der 4. EG-Richt linie' statt, ausgerichtet vom Institut für Unternehmungsführung und Un ternehmensforschung der Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Die Jahrestagung 1979 der Schmalenbach-Gesellschaft - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Betriebswirt schaft e. V. am 31. 5. 1979 in Düsseldorf galt ebenfalls neuen Entwicklun gen in der Rechnungslegung, speziell den Auswirkungen der 4. und 7. EG Richtlinie. In beiden Veranstalrungen wurden kontroverse Auffassungen zu den für eine Neuregelung anstehenden Kernfragen der Rechnungslegung herausgestellt und zahlreiche Anregungen für Lösungsansätze gegeben.
