Several iris-themed page borders in either gold or olive green, tri-iris woodcut device in red printed at end of the story, woodcut of the Queen of the Fishes holding an Eragny Press book at the rear colophon announcing Vale Publications and site and date of the printing. Top edge gilt. Protected with an archival clear Grafix Dura Lar dust wrapper._____CONDITION: VG++. Slight bowing (concavity) of front and rear covers due to aging and retraction of the vellum, small area of aging and wear to vellum at top of front cover, very light dustsoiling (aging) to remainder of front cover but overall quite clean. Small ex-libris on front pastedown. Faint foxing to front and rear free endplates. Interior text pages and wood engravings in fine condition. _____DISCUSSION: This was the first Eragny Press publication and one of its most charming and sought after. The illustrations and quirky type have a naiveté and childishness entirely appropriate to this whimsical fairy tale.
