Hard Cover. Condition: Near Fine. VG++. First Edition. 61 pgs., 5 1/2" x 8 1/4", Red hardcover with gilt title etc on spine, very-very slight wear at bottom of spine, INSCRIBED (Oct. 4, 1976 Best Wishes from Paul Janeski To __ _____ Way down in Atlanta, Georgia. H ya ALL !), SIGNED, & DATED 10/4/76 by Paul Janeski (compiler) on left front endpaper, content clean, bright & tight, DJ has picture of Pvt. William Margraff on front cover, very -very slight wear to top edge of spine, INCLUDED are 6 items: FIRST ITEM is a handwritten letter (9" x 11") by Paul Janeski (compiler) dated 11/2/76 enclosed in an envelope. He's inquiring if the reader received this autograph copy because some mail carriers were on strike and if he didn't, he'll send another.SECOND ITEM is a handwritten envelope dated 11/10/76 by compiler. THIRD ITEM is a handwritten letter (8 1/2" x 11") by Paul Janeski (compiler) dated 12/5/81 enclosed in an envelope. In this letter Paul responds to the reader's first question which he stated is in the book's introduction which I assume the question is - how he came across the letters. The second question is who assembled them which he states he did because they were not in order in the little tin box. He explains that he had no trouble in getting them published. He basically answered an add to that publishing co. and they printed them. Also, writes that he had the honor a couple of years ago of being inducted into Pennsylvania's Sports Hall of Fame. At a height of 5' 2" in tall, he is the smallest player to be considered for Major League Baseball. Back in the year 1946 he was called for tryout with Connie Macks Philadelphia Athletics Baseball team. FOURTH ITEM is Paul's business card listing title etc. FIFTH ITEM is a xerox copy of a book review on this book. SIXTH ITEM is a 4 pg. xerox article titled "Baseball and the Art of War" by Patricia Brown Davis in Nov. 2008 of Mountain Home. This is an interesting article about Paul Janeski's (compiler) life including : His time in the sevice as a Corporal during WWII & the discovery of his art work (once the US Army's post office & processing center - walls were entirely covered with paintings & cartoon - most images were of individual soldiers, their jobs and faces in caricature with names and ranks listed) in Italy by two WWII veterans. It also tells of their search for Paul upon returning to the states. Also, it covers his early baseball days before the service when in 6th grade he won a slot on the high school team. Later he played for a Wellsboro team. At nineteen, he had the opportunity to play professionally with the Canadian Clowns, a traveling night team - his parents refused to give him permission. Just after he got drafted into the army, he played at boot camp at Fort Bragg, NC & played two games in Andover, England. After the war, he played again for the Wellsboro team and later played with Philadelphia Athletics only to return to Wellsboro. Although life in the pros was not to be, in 1975 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Baseball Hall of Fame because of his liftetime involvement in the game. Paul leaves an interesting legacy in his walls of artwork and also on his personal mess kit, canteen, and drinking cup which was given to the Tioga Cnty. Historical Society in 1980. All three of these items are full of carvings telling of the places, dates, names, ships, etc that were part of his wartime experience. Signed.
