Note… that this is a heavy and oversized book, so additional postage will be required for international or priority orders. ~SP44~ [4.0P] A book that explores the lesser-known aspects of the artist's work, focusing on his development of unique wooden constructions, called 'maderas.' It accompanies a groundbreaking exhibition showcasing these works and is the first North American exhibition of these specific pieces, highlighting Torres-Garcia's innovations in this medium. The book includes essays by scholars that discuss the creation of the maderas and their place in the abstract art world, particularly in Paris and Montevideo. Joaquin Torres-Garcia (1874-1949) is one of the most influential artists to have emerged from Latin America in the early 20th century. His unique innovations in the medium of wood foreshadow later artistic developments in Europe and the Americas (such as the work of Louise Nevelson). Torres-Garcia was also much celebrated for his work as a modernist painter, teacher and author.
