Taking as its basis the works of 26 international contemporary artists, the exhibition examines the viewerÆs role in relatively recent art. Frequently the individual is invited to touch the artwork, to move around in it, to help themselves from it or in other ways play a part in relation to it. Placed in the role of active participant in various ways, our traditional situation as a detached spectator is challenged. The exhibition seeks to clarify this aesthetic shift such as it finds expression in art from the 1960s until today. Includes among many artists Vito Acconci, Carl Andre, George Brecht, Michael Craig-Martin, Liam Gillick, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Douglas Gordon, Dan Graham, Mona Hatoum, Donald Judd, Allan Kaprow, Paul McCarthy, Bruce Nauman, Yoko Ono, Jorge Pardo, Jason Rhoades, Thomas Struth et al, English/Norwegian, Year2002, Illust. The early nineties witnessed the emergence of a new generation of young artists in Norway who saw photography as a valid means of expression. R°dland is a key figure in the developments in Norway and has made his mark internationally. Fascinated by American appropriation art, he engages in a reflection over nature - with particular references to Norwegian National Romanticism - firmly from the perspective of the present day. In his photographic works he creates images of his reflections on cliches and meta-images in relation to religion and sentimentality, often with a particularly sharp ironic undercurrent. The retrospective exhibition shows a decade-long process of development in his work, with its condensed and consistent mode of expression and common thematic structure., English/French/Norwegian, Year2003, Illust. Robert GoberÆs art is fascinating and troubling at the same time. Patently innocent everyday objects betray a different side to their character, referring back not only to the artistÆs personal experiences but to what is universally common to us all. In this exhibition, Displacements, the focus is on objects familiar from the home environment. You can approach the exhibition, which covers some of the principal themes in GoberÆs works, either as an installation or a series of fragmented visions., English/ Norwegian, Year2003, Illust. Vacuum cleaners, light tubes, water tanks, basket-balls, life boats, Buster Keaton, Louis XIV, a travel jar, a Jim Beam train, Michael Jackson, pornography, a balloon dog and beach play toys are among the ingredients of KoonÆs art, in a dialogue with very personal symbolical premises. In this exhibition of Koons, which features works from the late seventies to the present day, the public is invited to experience a challenging meeting with art that poses fundamental questions about aesthetics and the notion of art in the context of different social values. Apart from providing a direct artistic experience, the aim is to show the development and inner coherence of Jeff KoonÆs art and to highlight his originality and identity., English/Norwegianm, Year2004, Illust.
