A very good copy in a good jacket. An examination into the various speculations over the shape of earth. "A mixture of narrative and lengthy quasi-scientific discussion which combine to produce a decidedly eccentric view of the Earth and the surrounding cosmos. The book qualifies as a lost race fiction of the inner world sort, with a touch of the after life thrown in. Way out on the limb of the family tree of the oddball." [Locke, Spectrum I, p83]. The jacket presents well but is split at the spine along 90% of its length. Some chips, and edgewear. Boards a little rubbed at the corners, bumping to the spine tips. [11079, Hyraxia Books].

First edition. "A mixture of narrative and lengthy quasi-scientific discussion which combine to produce a decidedly eccentric view of the Earth and the surrounding cosmos. The book qualifies as a lost race fiction of the inner world sort, with a touch of the after life thrown in. Way out on the limb of the family tree of the oddball." - Locke, A Spectrum of Fantasy, p. 83. "An eccentric novel based on a modified version of Cyrus Teed's Koreshanity, or the cellular hypothesis. According to Teed, we live on the inside of a hollow sphere . The protagonist is Dr. Harland Sargent, an original thinker along cosmological lines, who spends roughly the first two thirds of the book discussing various theories of the Earth and the universe, ranging from the Greeks to Einstein. Sargent, who rejects the heliocentric theory, covers many alternatives, describing their reasoning, observations, and experiments. Among them are several flat earth theories, hat-shaped earths, lumpy universes, pyramidal earths, and hollow earths, among which he includes Symzonia, which he obviously has read. The development of this material is surprisingly clear and accurate, and it amounts to a good survey of eccentric cosmologies . The fictional part is amateurish and weak, but the survey of eccentric cosmologies is valuable for covering many systems not generally known or accessible." - Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years 755. Clareson, Science Fiction in America, 1870s-1930s 297. Sargent, British and American Utopian Literature, 1516-1985, p. 183. Teitler and Locke, By the World Forgot (2013) 413. Bleiler (1978), p. 72. Reginald 05398. Corner tips lightly worn, a clean, tight, very good copy. An excellent copy of a scarce book. (#170874).
