Le pagine sono 8-XXXVI-344. Molte e belle incisioni tecniche sui colpi e le risposte possibili, alternate a disegni di armi bianche antiche e moderne. Massiccio e ben legato. Tutti i difetti del volume sono nella coperta anteriore che presenta scoloriture diffuse e l'evidente impronta di un altro volume. Timbrino di possesso di Club Ufficiali di Artiglieria alla pagina XVI. Raro. Buono.

Quarta edizione (la prima era apparsa nel 1884) di questo fondamentale trattato, considerato la bibbia della scherma del XIX secolo. Il Parise, torinese seguace di Garibaldi ed acceso nazionalista, asserì la netta superiorità della scuola meridionale su quella settentrionale, in quanto considerava la prima come custode della scherma italiana, e la seconda totalmente contaminata dall'influenza straniera. L'a. fu il fondatore della scuola di scherma adottata dal Ministro della Guerra dell'epoca. Il suo sistema si basò sull'assioma: ''la fretta e la forza sono nemici capitali della scherma''. Buon esemplare, timbro del Comando dei 4^ Reggimento Artiglieria al piatto e al frontespizio, con lunga nota ms. datata Cremona 1889 che attesta il passaggio di proprietà dalla biblioteca del Reggimento al Colonnello Silvani.  Gelli p. 156-8 e 565 (erroneamente registra la presente come ''seconda edizione'').
