Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - Inspired by the writings of Russian Orthodox priest, theologian, and philosopher of religion Sergei Bulgakov, as well as Italian Catholic philosopher of history Augusto Del Noce's theory of the history of the twentieth century as the realization of the atheistic conclusions of nineteenth-century philosophy, Teokratia offers a study in the collapse, followed then by the apparently spontaneous regeneration, of the so-called 'theocratic principle in Russian culture.' This is the key both to what the author alleges is the primary ideational causation and fundamental religious meaning of the Russian Revolution, and to the nature and underlying rationale of the authoritarian regime that exists today in 'Putin's Russia.' The book serves simultaneously as a spiritual biography of Russia's last (now sainted) tsar, Nicholas II (1894-1917), exploring the theological sources of Nicholas's unwillingness, even inability, to grant Russia a constitution as a matter of faith and conscience-questioning as it does so the tensions in not only Bulgakov's political theology but also the meaning of the place of the basileus/emperor/tsar in Eastern Orthodox Christianity. Concluding that politics is, as it were, 'always already' an act of sacred representation, Teokratia argues that at stake in the Russian Revolution-and, indeed, in Russia's present-is not only different accounts of politics, but also, more fundamentally, different accounts of Christianity.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - The papers collected in this volume explore the strategies through which Christian authorities throughout the early medieval world both established and expressed their social position, while at the same time drawing attention to the moments when those same processes were resisted and challenged. Where previous studies of Christianisation have for the most part approached the issue of dissent through the continued existence of paganism and the various Christian heresies, this volume suggests that the experience of doubt towards, and articulation of resistance to, the claims of Christian leaders extended far outside the circles of pagan intellectuals and dissident theologians. The result is a view of Christianisation as far more piecemeal, complex and incomplete than has often been acknowledged.Contributors include Peter Turner, Peter Kritzinger, Collin Garbarino, Philip Wood, Ralph Lee, Richard Payne, Mike Humphreys, Giorgia Vocino, and Gerda Heydemann.

Buch. Condition: Neu. Neuware - What made Pope Gregory I 'great' If the Middle Ages had no difficulty recognizing Gregory as one of its most authoritative points of reference, modern readers have not always found this question as easy to answer. As with any great figure, however, there are two sides to Gregory - the historical and the universal. The contributors to this handbook look at Gregory's 'greatness' from both of these angles: what made Gregory stand out among his contemporaries; and what is unique about Gregory's contribution through his many written works to the development of human thought and described human experience.Contributors include: Jane Baun, Philip Booth, Matthew Dal Santo, Scott DeGregorio, George E. Demacopoulos, Bernard Green, Ann Kuzdale, Stephen Lake, Andrew Louth, Constant J. Mews, John Moorhead, Barbara Müller, Bronwen Neil, Richard M. Pollard, Claire Renkin, Cristina Ricci, and Carole Straw.
