Im Sohne entwickelte sich frühzeitig Lust und Neigung zur Poesie und eine große Leidenschaft für das Theater. Unter solchen, immerhin vergeblichen Kämpfen beendete Waldstein die Normalclassen, die Realschule und einige Curse am Wiener polytechnischen Institute und trat dann, wie es bestimmt war, in das Geschäft seines Vaters ein.
