August 1882. --- Max Waldstein war ein Sohn des deutschen Erfinders, Optikers und Unternehmers Jakob Waldstein (1810-1876) sowie ein Bruder des Schriftstellers Ludwig Waldstein (1836-1919) und des Optikers und Hoflieferanten Simon Waldstein (1837-1902). --- Im Wiener Adressbuch von 1883 ist Max Waldstein verzeichnet als Rechnungs-Official bei der Direktion für administrative Statistik, Minoritenplatz 2. --- Laut dem BLKÖ trat Waldstein 1860 "aus dem Geschäfte seines Vaters in den Staatsdienst, in welchem er jetzt in der k. k. statistischen Centralcommission die Stelle eines Rechnungsrevidenten bekleidet." --- Gerichtet an die Musikalien-Handlung Jungmann in Wien-Neubau. --- Transkription: "Geehrter Herr! Als Max neun Jahre zählte, siedelte sein Vater nach Wien über und gründete da seine bald in guten Ruf gelangte optische Anstalt; auch gab er das Büchlein heraus: Die Brille. Anleitung zur Unterstützung und Erhaltung des Sehvermögens, nach einer von allen Autoritäten dieses Faches anerkannten. Methode" (Wien 1867, Gerold's Sohn, 8°.). Im Sohne entwickelte sich frühzeitig Lust und Neigung zur Poesie und eine große Leidenschaft für das Theater.
