La sua figura ebbe parte di primo piano negli ambienti umanisti della corte pontificia, come testimoniano le sue imprese romane. Poco della produzione di Melozzo è giunto sino ai giorni nostri e solo recentemente si è riscoperto il valore di questo pittore di origine romagnola, la cui opera ha contribuito allo sviluppo della pittura della seconda metà del 1400 nell'Italia centrale.
