Albuminabzug. 19,3 x 25,8 cm. Auf (wesentlich größeren) Karton mit umlaufenden Zierlinien montiert. Im Unterrand des Trägerkartons Eindruck des Photographen und montierter Aufkleber mit Bildlegende. Linkes unteres Eck des Trägerkartons mit Knickspur (ca. 3 cm), Abzug etwas geblichen, sonst gut. Mencke, vormals Offizier der schleswig-holsteinischen Armee, übernahm 1852 in Hamburg das Atelier von Hermann Biow. Sein 1853 gegründetes Photographisches Institut, führte nach seinem frühen Tod seine Witwe weiter. Nach ihrer Wiederverheiratung 1870 zog sie nach Wandsbek und gründete den "Verlag v. A. Mencke & Co., Wandsbeck b. Hamburg". In umfangreichen Mappenwerken gab dieser vor allem großformatige photographische Ansichten deutscher, österreichischer und baltischer Adelsitze wie hier vorliegend heraus, von denen wohl die meisten dabei erstmals photographisch festgehalten wurden. Alle Aufnahmen mit dieser Firmierung entstanden 1870 oder später und sind Arbeiten angestellter Photographen des Verlages. Am Beginn seiner beruflichen Laufbahn arbeitete kurzzeitig auch der Photograph Cornelius Schaarwächter für diesen Verlag, der später eines der bekanntesten Berliner Ateliers betrieb.

Nach den handschriftlichen Notizen auf dem vorderen Spiegel 1928 erworben von der Landesbibliothek zu Altenburg, Einband erneuert [Rücken] 1940 in Berlin. Mit farbigem Exlibris der Familien-Sammlung von Lindenau, das auf die älteste Historie der Familie Bezug nimmt. Das Rittergut Lindenau bei Leipzig wurde 1182 als Herrensitz unter Didericus de Lindinouwe erwähnt. Interessante Quelle zur Frage der juristischen Ausbildung in Sachsen im 18. Jh.
