Driven by the desire to become a painter, Ludwig Karl, only 15 years old and destined for a technical career, voluntarily exchanged his studies at the State Trade School for the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 1890. As a guest student, he received instruction from Professors August Eisenmenger, who headed the master class in historical painting; Christian Griepenkerl, who specialized in allegorical representations using ancient mythology and portrait painting; and Rudolf Carl Huber, who primarily taught his students animal painting.
